📰 What's the deal with "guaranteed media coverage?"
Plus: RENEW/WELL 2.0 is heading to Los Angeles!
Hello from Dallas,! It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the great state of Texas. It’s lovely to be back for a few days…albeit hot. It’s very, very hot.
Since my last newsletter, I celebrated my birthday (hello, #leoszn) and our team wrapped up our first RENEW/WELL event, which took place on July 31 in Flatiron, NYC. RENEW/WELL is an interactive media & influencer event uniting tastemakers with trailblazers in wellness, curated by FACTEUR PR. It was an incredible event that delighted all the senses. Sight! Sound! Touch! Taste! Smell!

If you follow @facteurpr on Instagram in particular, you’ve likely seen a lot of shares from this wellness event since the month began. The event was only three hours and we’ve seen more than 115 pieces of content come in with a reach of nearly 1.5 million people and more than 3.5 million impressions and counting. How fun is that? (See the highlights)
Events like this are so vital when it comes to authentically connecting with the people that can help introduce your brand to thousands if not millions of more people. I was chatting with our friend Chelsea Candelario at PureWow during the event, and she shared that while press events are part of the job, it was refreshingly nice to attend an event and meet multiple brands at the same time.
Here’s more of what guests had to say about the first RENEW/WELL event:
“Thanks so much for the invite to the event. My daughter and I had such a great time! I loved all the details (you thought of everything from food, drinks, to decor!) and learning about all the products was super cool! In a few weeks I will be back in work mode full-time, pitching stories to various outlets.” –Amy Jamieson, journalist
“The event featured hands-on demos, personalized skincare advice, and a lively, wellness-focused vibe. It was a refreshing chance from the usual industry events and made the whole experience much more enjoyable.” –Olga Ferrara, influencer
“Thank you for inviting me to The Renew/Well event! I have ideas running through my mind for article pitches! I appreciated the common threads that tied the brands together. Sustainability, cruelty-free, vegan, respecting and showcasing unique ingredients.” –Vanessa Baumann, journalist
“It was great and the products were amazing!!!! I really liked the intimacy of the space.” –Rachel Sokol, journalist
“Such a fun event! I had a great time meeting you and your team, along with all the lovely brands! Thank you again for having me!” –Christina Heiser, journalist
“Best part of the event was getting introduced to brands that I hadn’t heard of yet that were women-owned & super diverse. There was a big international presence within the brands too & you could tell the team really loved each brand!” –Hana Daly, influencer
We also sent out a survey to all the exhibiting brands, and 100% of respondents said they would participate in the event again. Big yay!
» If you want to cut through the noise and easily and meaningfully introduce your brand, product, or services to journalists and influencers in the beauty & wellness space, bookmark the next RENEW/WELL, which will take place in Spring 2025 in Los Angeles! Early bird bookings will begin in September. Stay tuned!

What’s the deal with “guaranteed media coverage?”
Ooof, here we go again.
I've been seeing a lot of ads on social media circulating from so-called "PR companies" that claim they can guarantee your business press coverage – and fast.
The reality is that no reputable PR agent or agency is ethically able to guarantee coverage because press coverage is earned, not bought. Coverage and its timing are ultimately controlled by editorial teams, not the publicists.
The only way to say you can 'guarantee media coverage' is through something called ADVERTISING, and that is what these "PR companies" are selling you: pay-to-play opportunities.
There is nothing wrong with buying an ad, but if you ask me, there is a lot that is wrong with deceiving people. The value of an ad is not the same as the value of an earned placement. Consumers are savvy and most know this, too. And it's really sad that these “PR companies” are not being forthcoming about their methods in which they are getting you "guaranteed coverage."
The best way to ensure your PR partner is equipped to get you meaningful results is to do your due diligence and make sure they have four key things: reputation, resources, relationships, and results to back it up.
